July 4th is a day when we stop what we’re doing and celebrate with our fellow citizens the freedom that we all enjoy. As am immigrant, I am very proud to be a naturalized American citizen. It is an honor to be part of a country that accepts “…your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free. The wretched refuse of you teamming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door!” I believe in this country and I believe in the American Dream!
In honor of America, the Beautiful, the Mr. and I decided to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city and enjoy this day at the “shining sea” (actually, the Atlantic Ocean…see what I did there? So cheesy).
We boarded the LIRR to Bay Shore, took a cab, got on a ferry, and ended up in Kismet, Fire Island. This place is one of my favorite beach getaways. It’s peaceful, beautiful, and, well, perfect! Right when you get off the ferry, you are greeted by families on bikes, children selling hand painted sea shells, a little Pizza Shack, and a few restaurants. There are boats docked all around, and people walking around barefoot. Ever read a novel that is set in a little summer village by the beach where everyone knows each other? Yes, this is that kind of place. Here are a few photos of our adventure:
One of the walkways to the beach. The ferry docks on the opposite side of the beach, so we walked across the island to the ocean. It’s a short walk, under 10 minutes, and very scenic. If you look closely, you can see the sand at the end of this path.
The weather was beautiful! Sun+slight wind= perfect napping weather! Which we did…the sound of crashing waves afainst the shore was like a lullaby.
Well folks, thank you for stopping by! Do you want to experience this for yourself? Check out the Beach Getaways on available on the LIRR website. We went to Kismet, but there are many options to pick from!
